While we all are getting ready for the Christmas holiday, a piece of sad news was sent from Rev. Maxwell who is our ministry partner in Pakistan. In December 17, Sunday, a church that has over 400 believers in Quetta, Pakistan were having their Sunday Sermon. After children’s Christmas program and pastor’s sermon, while brothers and sisters were lining up for the communion, a series of gunshots were fired outside the church. All of sudden, one suicide bomber came in and blew himself up at the main door. When some rushed outside, they were awaited by gunfire as the terrorists were on the church lawn. According toRev. Maxwell, there are at least 12 dead and more than 37 injured in this attack.
In 2012, German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared that Christianity is “the most persecuted religion in the world.”, which is true, especially in Muslim world. As a religious minority group, Christians in Muslim world have been discriminated and prosecuted in their society on a daily basis. Christmas is always tied up with joy. Unfortunately, this Christmas, the brothers and sisters in this church are going through the pain of loss and, especially, the spiritual struggle. Therefore, brothers and sisters, let us lift them up in our prayers.
Dear Lord Heavenly Father, we pray that your mighty hands will comfort the victim’s family, cure these injured brothers and sisters and alleviate their physical and mental pain. Father, please guard their hearts and minds. Let them continually be united, love each other and put their faith in you so that your church will keep growing. Lord, we also pray for Muslims. Please lead them to stay away from the darkness and to have the light of life. In the name of Jesus, I pray.
