Mt. Tabor

Mt. Tabor is the highest mountain in lower Galilee (1,843 ft). It rises, perfectly round, above the fertile Jezreel Valley. Its beauty entrapped the Israelites in idol worship: “Listen, O house of the king! For the judgment pertains to you; for you have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor ”(Hosea 5:1), and inspired the psalmist in praising God: “The north and the south—you created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name.” (Ps 89:12)
It is where the territory of three Jewish tribes converged (Joshua 19:12, 22, 34). It is the place where the men of Naphtali and Zebulun gathered to attack the Canaanites (Judges 4: 6-14). It is also one of the traditionally believed sites of the transfiguration (Matt 17:5).
